Gabitril (Tiagabine) 10mg should be available next week, says Teva UK
We have been informed by Teva UK that Gabitril (tiagabine) 10mg strength should be available in pharmacies from the middle of next week.
A spokesperson for Teva UK said they have been promised stocks of the medication from the manufacturers by 23 October. These would be released to the wholesalers the following day for delivery to pharmacies. The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has confirmed these will be available for customer orders from Monday 28 October 2019.
This follows a Europe-wide supply issue with the medication since early August 2019.
Delay for 5mg/15mg strengths
There is still a delay in the supply of Gabitril (tiagabine) 5mg and 15mg strengths but the DHSC has confirmed these are expected to be availablefrom the week commencing 11 November 2019.
Teva Customer Services are happy to take calls from pharmacies and will work to redistribute stock around the UK, where possible. Their number is 0800 590 502.
Unlicensed imports
The DHSC has advised that clinicians could also consider prescribing unlicensed imports from abroad, working with relevant guidance and NHS Trust or local governance procedures. Pharmacies can place orders for unlicensed tiagabine once they have received a prescription for unlicensed tiabagine tablets from the GP.

Tiagabine is classed as a category 3 anti-epileptic drug (AED) by the MHRA. This means that individuals can be switched between different versions of their epilepsy medications and that these medications can be prescribed generically.
For people who do not have enough supplies of their medication, we recommend they see their GP as soon as possible to discuss further medication management.
