1. Acceptance
When you access our website, www.epilepsysociety.org.uk ("Site"), or the content or services (the "Content") available via the Site you acknowledge that you have read and agreed to abide by the terms described below and you are deemed to have entered into an agreement with Epilepsy Society. Please read these terms of use carefully before you start to use the Site. If you do not agree to these terms of use, please refrain from using the Site.
2. Information about us
2.1 The Site is owned and operated by Epilepsy Society (a Registered Charity No. 206186 and a Company Limited by Guarantee No. 492761) ("Epilepsy Society"). Our registered office is at Chesham Lane, Chalfont St. Peter, Buckinghamshire SL9 0RJ. 2.2 We are supported in a number of areas of our work by educational grants from pharmaceutical companies. We do not promote any of the drugs manufactured by those or any other pharmaceutical companies.
3. Accessibility
3.1 Our Site is designed to be easy-to-use and accessible to anyone.
3.2 Our Site has been designed and built to meet the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) Web Content Accessibility 'AA' guidelines.
3.3 We have tried to keep to the following principles:
3.3.1 clear and simple language that can be easily understood, avoiding the use of jargon and explaining any technical terms;
3.3.2 plain page backgrounds to enable the text to be read easily;
3.3.3 a colour contrast that enables people with colour blindness to distinguish between different types of content;
3.3.4 manageable chunks of information on pages, with the key points summarised in the first paragraph and the use of bullet points to break up the text;
3.3.5 headings to structure the text and make it easier to follow;
3.3.6 images with descriptive titles and/or additional written detail; and
3.3.7 easy-to-follow links that clearly identify the page the link goes to.
3.4 Access to our Site is permitted on a temporary basis, and we reserve the right to withdraw or amend the service we provide on our Site without notice (see below). We will not be liable if for any reason our Site is unavailable at any time or for any period.
3.5 From time to time, we may restrict access to some parts of our Site, or our entire Site, to users who have registered with us.
3.6 We cannot guarantee the availability of this Site, nor the accuracy and currency of the information provided on the Site. We cannot be held responsible for any problems users of this Site might encounter or harm they might be caused.

4. Intellectual property rights
4.1 All copyright and other intellectual property rights and goodwill in or relating to the Content or design of our Site and any material emailed to you or otherwise supplied to you in conjunction with our online service or products are the property of Epilepsy Society or a third party.
4.2 You are authorised to view the content of this Site solely for your personal, non-commercial use. The Content of this Site is protected by copyright under UK and international laws, and the title to the content shall not pass to you or any other person or organisation. All such rights are reserved. Unauthorised use of the content may violate copyright, trademark and other laws.
4.3 You may print off one copy, and may download extracts, of any page(s) from our Site for your personal reference and you may draw the attention of others within your organisation to material posted on our Site.
4.4 You must not modify the paper or digital copies of any material you have printed off or downloaded in any way, and you must not use any illustrations, photographs, video or audio sequences or any graphics separately from any accompanying text.
4.5 If you print off, copy or download any part of our Site in breach of these terms of use, your right to use our Site will cease immediately and you must, at our option, return or destroy any copies of the materials you have made.
5. Images
Some people in images used on this Site are models. All persons shown in images used on this Site have given their consent to the use of their image by us.
6. Reliance on information on our Site
6.1 The Epilepsy Society Site is designed for information purposes only and is not concerned with providing specific medical advice. Commentary and other materials posted on our Site are not intended to amount to advice on which reliance should be placed. We therefore disclaim all liability and responsibility arising from any reliance placed on such materials by any visitor to our Site, or by anyone who may be informed of any of its contents.
6.2 Epilepsy Society epilepsy information has been drafted using relevant references so that so far as is possible the information represents the consensus view of UK medical practice and opinion. Where appropriate, relevant specialist organisations have been approached for information, and approval has been given by the Epilepsy Society medical director. The information should not be used for diagnosing or treating a health problem.
6.3 If you have or suspect you may have a health problem, you should consult a suitably qualified professional. This information is not intended to be a substitute for medical guidance from your own doctors. We cannot be held responsible for any actions taken as a result of using Epilepsy Society information resources.
6.4 The information contained in this Site is applicable in the UK. Other countries may have different regulations or available drug treatments, and drugs may be licensed differently. If accessing this Site from outside the UK, you are advised to check locally for information specific to your own country.
7. Changes to our Site
We aim to update our Site regularly and reserve the right to suspend, change, modify, add or remove aspects of the Content available on the Site at any time. If the need arises, we may suspend access to our Site, or close it indefinitely. Any of the information on our Site may be out of date at any given time, and we are under no obligation to update such material.

8.1 Whilst every effort has been made to ensure the high quality and accuracy of the Site, Epilepsy Society makes no guarantees, conditions or warranties as to its Content. To the extent permitted by law, we, and third parties connected to us hereby expressly exclude:
8.1.1 All conditions, warranties and other terms which might be implied by statute, common law or the law of equity;
8.1.2 Any liability for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage incurred by any user in connection with our Site or in connection with the use, inability to use, or results of the use of our Site, any Sites linked to it and any materials posted on it, including, without limitation any liability for:
(a) loss of income or revenue;
(b) loss of business;
(c) loss of profits or contracts;
(d) loss of data;
(e) loss of goodwill;
(f) wasted management or office time; and
for any other loss or damage of any kind, however arising and whether caused by tort (including negligence), breach of contract or otherwise, even if foreseeable.
8.2 This does not affect our liability for death or personal injury arising from our negligence, nor our fraudulent misrepresentation or misrepresentation as to a fundamental matter, nor any other liability which cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.

9.1 You do not need to ask permission to link to our Site, however any page or file must be called with its URL displayed. We reserve the right to withdraw linking permission without notice.
9.2 Links to our Site must be in a fair and legal manner and must not damage our reputation or take advantage of it.
9.3 You must not establish a link to our Site in such a way as to infer any form of association, endorsement or sponsorship by Epilepsy Society of that website or its products or services.
9.4 You must not establish a link from any website that is not owned by you.
9.5 We link to other websites from our Site. These links are for your information only.
9.6 Although we look at these other websites to assess their quality, we are not responsible for the accuracy, quality or completeness of any information or advice provided by these websites and organisations. 12.1.2 attempt to gain unauthorised access to our Site, the server on which our Site is stored or any server, computer or database connected to our Site.
12.1.3 attack our Site via a denial-of-service attack or a distributed denial-of service attack.
12.2 By breaching this clause 13, you would commit a criminal offence under the Computer Misuse Act 1990. We will report any such breach to the relevant law enforcement authorities and we will co-operate with those authorities by disclosing your identity to them. In the event of such a breach, your right to use our Site will cease immediately.
12.3 We will not be liable for any loss or damage caused by a distributed denial-of-service attack, viruses or other technologically harmful material that may infect your computer equipment, computer programs, data or other proprietary material due to your use of our Site or to your downloading of any material on it, or on any website linked to it.

13.1 If any of these terms and conditions are determined by any competent authority to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable to any extent, such term, condition or provision will to that extent be severed from the remaining terms, conditions and provisions which will continue to be valid to the fullest extent permitted by law.
13.2 The English courts will have exclusive jurisdiction over any claim arising from, or relating to, a visit to our Site. These terms of use are governed by English Law.
