Epilepsy Society welcomes opportunity of rejoining Horizon
Professor Ley Sander, Medical Director at the Epilepsy Society, has welcomed news that the UK is to rejoin Horizon, the EU’s flagship research scheme.
“This is a day for celebration in the research community and particularly for our team at the Epilepsy Society," he said.
“We offer a unique space in the field of epilepsy and have always attracted the most talented scientists from across Europe. Some of our most pivotal work has been carried out through European funding including programmes such as Horizon.
“Our Director of Genomics, Professor Sanjay Sisodiya led on EpiPGX, a project which made great strides in understanding the links between genomics and treatment outcomes for people with epileptic seizures.
“The project brought together researchers, geneticists and computational biologists from leading centres across Europe, helping to unravel the interaction between genes and medication. This is helping to make personalised medicine a reality for an increasing number of the people we see in our clinics.
“Rejoining Horizon will present the opportunity to access the sort of funding that will make possible international collaboration with big data sets and the brightest minds. Funding will also help us to attract leading researchers from across Europe to join our team at the Epilepsy Society where we work in partnership with UCL and UCLH.”
