EpiNav™ is an interactive 3D-neuronavigation system that simultaneously displays the anatomy of the brain and any abnormal areas, critical brain functions, arteries, veins, blood vessels and the white matter tracts that connect the different areas of the brain.
3D-multimodal imaging and computer-assisted navigation
Hamartomas in the hypothalamus can give rise to severe epilepsy that is not controlled with medication and is not accessible to surgery.
A treatment option is to destroy the abnormal area with laser light from a probe inserted into the brain. The challenge is to find a safe trajectory that does not damage critical structures or blood vessels in the brain. We have developed 3D-multimodal imaging to display these structures and computer-assisted navigation to find safe trajectories.
