The Phoenix Café
You will find a warm welcome at the Phoenix café, whether you are staying in, or waiting for someone being treated at the research centre, visiting one of our residents, or enjoying the wonderful countryside that surrounds us (your furry canine friends are very welcome too).
We have seating across three rooms and on warm sunny days you can soak up the sunshine at one of our garden tables or sit in the little kitchen garden, which we work on with help from everyone. If you are a bit of a book worm you may like to visit our second-hand bookshop room and pick up your next page turner.
We offer a range of sandwiches freshly made every day along with café favourites including jacket potatoes, salads made to order (using produce from our kitchen garden when in season), burgers, hot dogs and chips – oozing with melted cheese if you are feeling a little naughty.
Cold drinks are found in the fridge, and you can order from a range of different teas and coffees; accompanying cakes and biscuits are always there to tempt. We also have a range of “old fashioned” sweets sold loose as well as bags of childhood favourites from black jacks and fruit salads along with shrimps and cola bottles to name but a few. You will also find some essentials like milk, stamps, toiletries and birthday cards. The parking is free and so is the Wi-Fi.
The Phoenix Heroes (the family of café volunteers) and I look forward to welcoming you on your next visit.

Get involved
If you have a few hours spare a week and would like to get involved in helping at the café or gardening in the kitchen garden, organising donations of second-hand books, helping at our annual tea party or, if board games are your thing, playing a game with our residents, please contact us. We are a friendly group who have all joined for many different reasons, friendships have formed, new skills learnt, and you will be making a real difference.
If you are interested in joining the Phoenix Heroes volunteering family, then please pop in for a chat, call 07842 844009 or email kate.lamb@epilepsysociety.org.uk
