Queen Elizabeth House
Our specialist nursing care for adults with epilepsy is provided in Queen Elizabeth House at our Chalfont Centre in Buckinghamshire. In addition to their epilepsy, residents often have associated and additional complications, including physical and learning disabilities, brain injury and autism.
Due to the expertise of our staff and our 24hr specialist services, acute and multiple seizures can normally be treated within the house. The expert mix of both social care, health care and therapy enables individuals to achieve the greatest possible independence, with a safety net of expert nursing and medical care.
Epilepsy Society has an international reputation for the treatment of epilepsy and the residents benefit enormously from having onsite NHS clinics and an inpatient epilepsy assessment centre (Sir William Gowers Centre).
Facilities at Queen Elizabeth House
Accommodation in Queen Elizabeth House is provided for 20 people in two single-story linked units that are light, airy and modern throughout. They are purpose built to allow manoeuvrability for wheelchair users. Each unit includes a central staff area to ensure optimal observation at all times.
All the bedrooms are ensuite and have double doors opening on to individual patios. Rooms to the rear have lovely views over surrounding countryside. All bedrooms are fitted with specialist equipment to meet the individuals’ needs. Residents share communal living and dining rooms alongside a large enclosed garden.
Assessment of need
All of Epilepsy Society’s services are based on the ethos of person-centred planning. This means that the person and those of importance to them are fully involved in developing highly individualised care plans.
Continual assessment of all needs is built into the ethos of Epilepsy Society and strong family involvement is actively encouraged.
