Epilepsy Society Research Funding Call
Advancing Personalised Neuromodulation for Drug-Resistant Epilepsy
Epilepsy Society is committed to supporting innovative research that addresses the significant unmet needs of people living with epilepsy. We are inviting applications for research that explores new and personalised approaches to the treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy, with a particular interest in focal cortical stimulation and other forms of neurostimulation. Funding of up to £450,000 is available, dependent on the merits of each proposal.
We want to support research that improves our understanding of how seizures develop and spread through individual brain networks, and how these networks respond to treatment. Research using advanced multimodal neuroimaging to identify biomarkers of treatment response is particularly encouraged. The aim is to help determine which people are most likely to benefit from neurostimulation, understand the mechanisms underlying treatment response, and ultimately support more personalised and effective treatment approaches.
Funding may support the resources required to deliver high-quality research in this area, including research personnel and specialist expertise, participant recruitment and assessment, neuroimaging and other research investigations, data collection and analysis, research equipment and infrastructure, and appropriate collaboration and dissemination activities.
We are particularly interested in projects that have a clear pathway towards clinical impact and that can contribute to a stronger evidence base for the use of neurostimulation in drug-resistant epilepsy. Through this funding call, Epilepsy Society aims to enable ambitious, collaborative research that can improve seizure control, cognitive and psychological outcomes, quality of life and overall wellbeing for people living with epilepsy, while laying the foundations for future research and advances in personalised epilepsy care. We are particularly interested to develop research work at the Society's Chalfont site.
